    Hey Nightfox!

    On Wed, Dec 31 2025 18:25:48 -0600, you wrote:

Burgers: Wendy's has been a favorite of mine recently. I like their
Dave's burgers (single or double) - I think they're tasty, and they
seem fairly fresh too (and they say their burger patties are never
    frozen - maybe that's true?).

I don't go to Wendy's often enough to even remember what a burger from there tastes like. But I believe it's one of my son's favorites so for now, I'll just have to take your word for it.

I like Culver's the most, I suppose. But I'm not sure they've made it out to the west coast yet, so you may have not had/heard of it.

I also like A&W's Papa Burger, Burger King's Whopper, and In-N-Out
    burgers.

You had brought this up not too long ago (sometime in 2025, lol) which convinced me to stop at an A&W on the way home from work one day (there's none close to where I live, but 45 minutes southeast on the freeway was one). I don't remember if I got the Papa burger, or the Bacon Cheeseburger (which looks like a Papa burger with bacon, to be honest).

I don't remember it standing out above and beyond, but I didn't /not/ like it, either. It was a decent burger.

I like Burger King's Whopper with "heavy all" which they give you 1.5x of everything besides the meat.

I've only had In-N-Out once in my life, when we were on vacation in Arizona. Again, I don't remember being like "zOMG" but I didn't complain, either.

Mexican fast food: Admittedly I do like Taco Bell sometimes, but
also Del Taco and Taco Time (and I think Taco Time is mainly in the
northwest US). I think Baja Fresh and Victorico's are pretty good
    too.

We probably shouldn't pool Taco Bell anywhere near "Mexican food". That is probably the most Americanized Mexican food around, and I'd be willing to bet most Mexicans wouldn't skimp on their meat, like Taco Bell does. I'm not even sure I'd classify any of the places listed above as "Mexican food".

That said, I don't mind Taco Bell once in a while. ;)

To be honest, Mexican fast food to me mainly consists of taco trucks, and those can be hit or miss whether they're good or not.

Otherwise, there's a couple sit-down places by me that I would rather go if I wanted authenticity. Corn tortillas, beans and rice, etc.

Pizza: These days, my favorites tend to be Papa Murphy's, Round
Table, and a couple that are more regional here (Abby's Legendary
Pizza and Belaggio's). For value, I think Little Caesar's isn't bad
    for the price.

Since my son worked at Dominoes all last summer, we ordered from there at 50% off quite a bit, as we knew he was making our pizzas with love and was able to get us a hell of a discount. Plus, they usually have a better deal than other places where you can get up to 5 toppings on a large pizza for like $10. ;)

I honestly don't think I've ever had Papa Murphy's, but don't think I've ever heard anything bad about it, either.

Otherwise, I'd rather order pizza from a local bar, or Italian joint. I tend to like thin crust, where they load up the toppings and melt the cheese over the top of them, locking all the goodness in. I'm not a huge fan of thick crust, like most of the "fast" food pizza places make.

This was in another message of mine, but In-N-Out here in AZ is crap compared to any of the ones I've been to in California (which is admittedly only three or four). Maybe all their ingredients dry out in shipping ;).

Carls Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburger and a plain old whopper if I'm on a work break.

I like Carl's Jr., but their prices tend to be fairly high, and I haven't seen them offer any deals in their app to help bring prices down, so I don't go there very often.

Thats why I never go there.

I remember reading the message, but it didn't click that you had mentioned AZ in it. I believe we went to one in Peoria, where we were staying at a vrbo or whatever it was.

By all means, it wasn't bad - good even. I didn't dislike it, whatsoever. It also wasn't something that would make me remember and crave it when I left, either.

It was definitely 105F almost the entire week we were there, though.. So maybe you're right as far as drying out in shipping. ;)

Aside from food, we drove out to Jerome for a couple days and it was a 20-30 degree difference from Peoria.

We have a Culver's now in Hope Mills, NC on the East Coast :-)

I tried it and wasn't bad, but wasn't my favorite either. May give them another try this year.

Glad to see new places though...

I see videos of lines at in-and-out so wonder when we will get one in NC.

Jerome is pretty cool. There's a haunted hotel, and then a separate hotel that used to be an insane asylum. Trent Reznor and Maynard both have houses there and their wives have wineries.. and I think there was a good place for ice cream.

That's exactly why we went there. My wife was big on ghost shows at the time, where they all do lockdowns, etc. So when we planned the stay in Peoria she looked up haunted places to go. We stayed at the haunted hotel for a night, in their main suite with a giant bay window facing the parking lot (we were a group of 4). We did a ghost tour and also visited Maynard's winery/bar, although I didn't know Reznor had anything there. Checked out a bunch of little gift shops, and we also ate at the "Haunted Hamburger" and got some t-shirts.

It was a fun two day trip. Almost wish we had another day to explore the town, as every time you plan something it always ends up kind of rushed.

We also checked out the Grand Canyon for a day, by way of the train in Williams - where we had a little time to check out gift shops on Route 66. Lots of stuff packed into a one week vacation. We only had a couple of actual days to enjoy our VRBO that had an outdoor kitchen and pool.

It was 105F in Peoria all week, but sitting outside in the shade you weren't all hot and groggy like you are here in Wisconsin at 90F and 80% humidity.

Needless to say, I'd love to go back and find more stuff to do for another week. Also seems like a great place to retire. ;)

I guess A&W was not purchased by Pepsico.
Pepsico bought Pizza Hut (1977), Taco Bell (1978),
and KFC (1986), later spinning them off in 1997 into Tricon Global Restaurants.
May 8, 2002: Tricon officially became the owner of A&W and Long John Silver's, adding them to KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell.

    Pepsico ruined KFC IMHO.
