    yeah he did mine and the ftelnet proxy ones.

    he also removed his users ip addresses from the finger when i asked him
    why his users all had the same ip addresses. they also post rarely and
    always 2 of them from different locations post at the same time.

    If anyone gets a block message just email ricksbbs@yahoo.com with the
    username you want and a location and your ip and I will send you back a password. The IP blocked was probably caught up in probe attack or too
    many attempts to log in. I let the BBS pretty much run on auto pilot.
    Nothing personal, I do not block anyone... the defense program
    however... ;-)

    Hey Rick. I noticed you're using Thunderbird to post these messages. Your message is coming through as UTF-8, but it doesn't seem like you're sending UTF-8 characters in the above quote. So I have two questions:

    1) Are you using ISO-8859-1 as your default text encoding in Thunderbird's server settings?

    2) Are you forcing Synchronet's NNTP service to use UTF-8 with the "-utf8" switch in services.ini?

    I think one of these two (or both) is causing this display issue. If you want to continue using ISO-8859-1 in Thunderbird, get rid of the "-utf8" parameter in services.ini.

    If you want to continue to translation everything to UTF-8 via Synchronet's NNTP service (I do this also), you should change Thunderbird's settings to use UTF-8 for the default text encoding.

    Lastly, If you are using Thunderbird's default settings (which should already by UTF-8), you might need to add the "-utf8" option to the command line in the NNTP and NNTPS sections of services.ini:

    Command=nntpservice.js -f -na -utf8

    Hope that helps!

    I am right here Nick. I thought something/someone was trying to spy on IP addresses. I had thought about shutting down the finger service but I like experimenting with the old protocols sometimes. As far as the insult about the multiple personality disorders I have no hateful witty comeback. I just enjoy this hobby. I have no explanation for all the other stuff you commented on. These are things I do not care to investigate. I do not twit or ban users but I will block bot attacks on the BBS. I guess I should be flattered you and MRO find me so fascinating? I have never been the focus of attention for anything. You put some pep in my step today. Thanks! There is a chance I do not have synchronet set up exactly correct so any anomalies are not intentional. Let me know if I should shut down access to my users to Dove-Net so they will not bother you and MRO. Maybe there is a filter so I can remove all your messages and MRO's? That way no one on my side can ever see your messages again. I will ask about that. Have a great day and thanks for bringing this to my attention. I am not sure if you were trying to be hurtful or helpful but thanks either way friend!
